Liverpool boss Arne Slot will be working hard to finetune his squad ahead of his first season in charge at Anfield.
The Dutchman took charge of the Reds following Jurgen Klopp’s departure at the end of last season, and he will be hoping to replicate the success he enjoyed while in charge of former side Feyenoord, where he won the Eredivisie title.
Slot will likely want to bolster his squad before the start of the new season, and it appears that he has been handed a boost in pursuit of a Premier League defender.
As per Football Insider, Nottingham Forest could be forced to sell Liverpool target Murillo this week in order to avoid penalties next season.
The centre-back impressed at The City Ground last term, having joined Forest from Brazilian side Corinthians last summer.
The defender played 36 times across all competitions last season, including 32 Premier League games as Forest avoided relegation despite being handed a points deduction.
Forest were docked four points for breaching the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules, and the report claims that Forest could have to sell a key player in the coming days in order to record profits in the region of £20-25 million.
Murillo, 21, is valued by the club at around £40 million, and the report claims that he has attracted interest from clubs in the Premier League including Liverpool.
The Brazilian’s current contract is set to run until 2028, which puts Forest in a commanding position during any potential negotiations over the player.
As well as Murillo, Englishman Morgan Gibbs-White is also mentioned as another player that could command a significant fee if Forest are forced to sell important players.
