Man United quoted £40 million for Premier League midfielder | Shoot

Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United could look very different next season, with the club’s bosses planing a summer overhaul of his midfield.

Veteran Brazil international Casemiro is expected to depart Old Trafford in the coming weeks after an underwhelming campaign last season, and Dane Christian Eriksen also faces an uncertain future.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS will be keen to replace any departing players, though, and it appears that United are interested in a Premier League midfielder.

According to Football Insider, the Red Devils are interested in West Ham United’s Edson Alvarez.

The report claims that United have identified the Mexico international as a top target as they search for midfield reinforcements, although the Hammers are reluctant to sell.

Alvarez has attracted interest from Manchester United after an impressive debut campaign at West Ham

West Ham are set to demand a fee of around £40 million for the central midfielder, who joined from Dutch side Ajax last summer.

Alvarez, 26, enjoyed an impressive debut season at The London Stadium, making 42 appearances across all competitions for David Moyes’ side, including 31 Premier League games.

The Mexican, who was previously linked with Chelsea before his move to East London, is contracted to the Hammers until the end of the 2028 campaign.

Current United boss Ten Hag worked with Alvarez during their time at Ajax, and the report claims that he remains a fan of the midfielder and is keen on the idea of a reunion.

It is also claimed that, if United fail to land their top target, they will look to Benfica’s Joao Gomes, although they are unlikely to meet his £70 million release clause this summer.
